President Donald Trump is vowing to impose “large scale fines” on California after a transgender teen competed in a California state final competition in track and field.
The move comes after Trump called California Gov. Gavin Newsom last week to threaten to withhold federal funding if the state did not comply with an executive order that Trump signed on his first day in office.
“A Biological Male competed in California Girls State Finals, WINNING BIG, despite the fact that they were warned by me not to do so,” Trump wrote in a post on his conservative social media platform on Tuesday morning. “As Governor Gavin Newscum fully understands, large scale fines will be imposed!!!”
The move by Trump is coming after a local transgender student-athlete wins first place in the triple jump in the CIF State Track and Field girl’s finals.
