Reggae singer Naâman, real name Martin Mussard, died this Friday, February 7 from a brain tumor diagnosed in 2019, his team, Big Scoop Records, announced in a statement. He was 34 years old.
“An iconic artist of the current reggae scene”, Naâman had just released a final album a few months ago, Temple Road Extended , an expanded version of his album Temple Road released in 2022.
Naâman, whose ambition was to “bring together a broad and diverse audience around messages of love and peace”, had produced hits such as Outta Road (29 million views) or House of Love (14 million views) and Own Yourself (8 million views).
“He leaves a vibrant legacy, both human and musical, that will resonate forever with his family, his teams and his audience,” according to Big Scoop Records. “(He) had a luminous outlook on the world and wanted above all to celebrate life.”
The singer of Karma (5.1 million views) and Soul Plan (5.6 million views) has signed over 70 titles and released five albums during his career. In recent weeks, he unveiled a collaboration with Mike & Riké, Just Love .
Naâman had put online in mid-December a final title, Mon amour . According to Big Scoop Records, he had also recorded some unreleased tracks, “eager to share a few more words with his audience”. “Their release will be scheduled soon.”
“Until his last moments among us, he continued to transmit just as much light and joy to those around him, welcoming death with confidence and with the same love he had for life,” the statement concluded.
A statement posted on his official Instagram handle reads:
“Naâman took his final breath at 10:10 am this morning. He believed deeply that we are all souls, a loving awareness that is eternal. That life never dies.
On his death he wanted people to know that their love has been his strength. That when he looked back at his life he was in awe of all the beauty and abundance. Right up till the end he wanted to create songs. Music was in his every breath.
The courage in the face of his illness, his patience and kindness, despite the pain, are an inspiration to those who had the privilege to take care of him in his final days. He embraced death with an absolute trust.
He is love,. Hius Joy is immortal. His song is eternal. Let us all celebrate him.
