Eddie Murphy’s son’s upcoming marriage to Jasmin the daugther of Martin Lawrence has sparked a playful war-of-words between the stars over who will pay for the nuptials.
Eddie Murphy’s son Eric Murphy, 35, and Jasmin Lawrence, 28, announced their engagement after more than three years of dating last week, with actors and longtime pals Murphy, 63, and Lawrence, 59, having the all-important discussion on their children’s big day.
Bad Boys star Lawrence, who is worth an estimated $110million, revealed he will bankroll the wedding, rather than dad of 10 Murphy, who has a $200million fortune during a candid chat on Big Boy’s show, Big Boy’s Neighborhood.
Lawrence said: ‘Eddie says I gotta pay for it because he said he paid for his daughter’s wedding, for the last six weddings. He says it’s my turn now, I don’t mind, I don’t mind..
‘It’s a blessing, they are two beautiful young people.’
He confirmed the pair have yet to set a date.
The love birds shared a video of the proposal to both of their Instagram accounts on Saturday.
‘11.27.2024. We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter 
,’ their caption began.
‘Special thank you to everyone who made this moment so beautiful!!’
In the video, Eddie Murphy’s son Eric led Jasmin into a room filled with white rose petals and bouquets of pink and white roses.
The room was lined with candles and featured a large red heart on the wall. Eric got down on one knee and proposed and Jasmin said yes!
Earlier this year, Eddie opened up about how he feels about his son dating Martin’s daughter.
The couple started dating during the summer of 2021 and Jasmin shared their relationship on an Instagram post for Eric’s birthday.
And while here are no details on how they met, it can be assumed that they’ve known each other for a long time.
‘They’re both beautiful, they look amazing together,’ the Coming To America star, 63, said.
Murphy and Lawrence are even talking about their potential grandchildren.
‘And it’s funny, everybody’s like, “What is that baby gonna be funny?”‘ the star of the Netflix sequel to Beverly Hills Cop 4 said.
He continued, saying: ‘Our gene pool is gonna make this funny baby.’
Eddie drove the point home, adding: ‘If they ever get married and have a child, I am expecting the child to be funny.’
Eric is the eldest child of Eddie and his former girlfriend, Paulette McNeely. He’s writer and voice actor.
Jasmin is the eldest daughter of Martin and his ex-wife Patricia Southall. She had a cameo in her dad’s most recent movie, Bad Boys for Life.
