Igbudu Market: No Plans To Close Market- Tidi Tells Traders

The Executive Council of Warri South Local Government area of Delta State, Dr Tidi Michael has debunked the rumours going around on social media platforms of the planned closure of Igbudu Market, Warri on Saturday, June 17 for Ovie of Agbarha right of passage.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael E. Tidi, in a statement released Friday, June 16, averred that the Council had to clarify, following repeated inquiries from traders and other critical stakeholders.

Dr Tidi, asserted that the right of passage of the Ovie of Agbarha, Warri, HRM London Orhifi Ememoh II, slated for tomorrow, Saturday, June 17, does not pose any security threat to traders in Igbudu Market and customers intending to carry out their usual purchases.

Whilst restating his administration’s resolve to sustain the support of traditional institutions in Warri South Local Government Area, Dr Tidi, emphasized the unwarranted closure of markets and other business concerns at this time when people are struggling with the economic difficulties heightened by the removal of fuel subsidy, was unnecessary.

Ovie of Agbarha:

The Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM London Orhifi Ememoh II, joined his ancestors in March of 2023.

His transition was announced by the most senior chief in the kingdom, High Chief Willie Atebefia Digbori.

Ememoh II reigned for 25 years, having been crowned on April 9, 1998, and given the staff of office on April 13, 1999.

Following the traditional ruler’s passage, a three-month mourning period throughout the seven towns of Agbarha Warri Kingdom and its satellite villages was declared. He will be buried on Saturday.
