Sam Williams of Dallas Cowboys was involved in a car accident in Plano around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, TMZ reports.
He was sent to the hospital for precautionary reasons after his car was reportedly struck by another vehicle, less than five miles from the Cowboys’ headquarters in Frisco.
According to the Plano Police Department, the 23-year-old football player was travelling in a black Corvette in Plano, a quick drive from the team facility in Frisco at around 2:15 p.m., when he struck another vehicle that had attempted a turn in front of oncoming traffic.
Sam Williams and the other driver were not seriously injured, Police say, but both parties were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, TMZ reports.
According to the report by TMZ, Police at the scene say there’s no indication that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
According to the information placed on the website of the Dallas Cowboys, the team revealed that the Cowboys’ medical team was able to visit Williams, and will be re-evaluated Friday morning.
As of now, the Cowboys sound optimistic he will be able to play Saturday against the Eagles at AT&T Stadium. The team will have a short walk-through practice on Friday, when it will send out a final injury report for the game.
The second-round pick has made a big contribution on the field for Dallas this season and has made several big plays for the Cowboys in recent weeks, including a fumble recovery against the Indianapolis Colts.
Sam Williams of Dallas Cowboys has 19 total tackles and three sacks in 13 appearances for the Cowboys this season.
