The Ukrainian military says all of the crew in the Russian cruiser Moskva perished in the sinking. But the Russian forces denied the claim, saying that they ensured that all crew members survived, AFP reports.

According to the report, a burning image of the Russian cruiser Moskva which sank last week in the Black Sea was revealed on Monday.

According to the report by Guardian Uk, the new photos and a video of the damaged Russian cruiser Moskva show that it was probably struck by anti-ship missiles and then abandoned before the ship sank in the Black Sea.

In the images, which analysts have said appear to be genuine, a plume of black smoke is seen rising from the heavily damaged Moskva, which was reported to have been hit by a Ukrainian missile strike last week.

The images show that the ship’s lifeboats have been deployed and there are no sailors visible on deck, suggesting the ship may have been abandoned. In the images, the Moskva is listing to port as two fire-hoses shoot streams of water into the air.

A three-second video filmed from a nearby ship appears to show a rescue tug approaching the burning Moskva. The short recording ends abruptly as a man nearby yells: “What the fuck are you doing?

While Moscow claimed the cruiser had been “severely damaged” by fire, a senior Pentagon official said on Friday that the Russian cruiser Moskva had indeed been sunk by two Ukrainian missiles. For Jérôme Pellistrandi, this Ukrainian attack is both “a tactical and media success” for kyiv, at war with Moscow for almost two months, the report by AFP revealed.

“It was the flagship of the fleet in the Black Sea, a relatively old building since it was put into active service in 1983”, continues on BFMTV, the editor-in-chief of the magazine Défense nationale, “the Russians had three copies, there are only two left”.

Likely survivors

In the first images of the Moskva on fire, we can see that a fire broke out – after the Ukrainian cruise missile strikes – on the rear part of the ship and that the towing vessel has not yet arrived to attempt to help him. Information establishes that these photos were taken shortly after the attack.

“When we see the images, it means that part of the crew was able to save themselves,” said General Jérôme Pellistrandi, referring however to Russian losses and a bitter failure for Moscow: “These images are devastating because they demonstrate the incapacity of the navy.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video last Saturday showing alleged sailors rescued from the Russian cruiser. Like a war of images that seems to be settling around a very significant episode of this war.
