Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday evening asked NATO countries to send more weapons to Ukraine to deal with the Russian invasion, claiming to have been waiting for this aid for “31 days”, the start of the conflict, AFP reports.
According to the report, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once again strongly urged Westerners to provide Ukraine with more weapons to fight the Russian invasion in a video released this Saturday evening.
“We need more armament. We must not only protect Ukraine but also the other countries of Eastern Europe, under the threat of a Russian invasion. We have made this clear during our talks with our American counterparts in Poland,” the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
“What is NATO doing? Is it led by Russia? What are they waiting for?” he criticized.
1% of NATO aircraft and tanks
“What is the price of this security? It’s very specific. It’s planed for Ukraine . It’s tanks for our state. It’s missile defence. It’s anti-ship weaponry. It’s what our partners have. That’s what’s covered in dust in their storage sheds,” Volodymyr Zelensky called.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyasked Westerners for 1% of NATO planes and tanks. “We didn’t ask for more. And we don’t ask for more. And we’ve been waiting for 31 days already!”, he said.
“Russian troops are destroying everything that makes us a nation, but they will be held responsible,” he warned.
A fight “in unequal conditions”
The Ukrainian president had already asked the countries of the Alliance to provide “unrestricted military aid” to his country, so that it can face the Russian army that kyiv is currently facing “in unequal conditions” in a video message addressed to the Heads of State and Government of NATO, meeting at an extraordinary summit in Brussels on Thursday. He had also on this occasion accused Moscow of using phosphorus bombs in Ukraine.
Russia is fueling a dangerous arms race by promoting its nuclear arsenal , Volodymyr Zelensky denounced on Saturday during a video intervention at the Doha Forum, organized by Qatar.
“They boast that they can destroy with nuclear weapons not only a particular country, but also the entire planet,” he pointed out.
