The funeral ceremony for Jean-Pierre Pernaut has been announced, and it will be on Wednesday in Paris, TF1 announced on Monday.

According to the report by AFP, the religious ceremony for Jean-Pierre Pernaut will take place in the 7th arrondissement, before a burial which will be private.

Jean-Pierre Pernaut, popular star of the 1 p.m. news from TF1 died last Wednesday at the age of 71.

A religious ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. at the Sainte-Clotilde basilica in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. The burial will be held in the strictest privacy, specifies TF1.

Regularly cited among the most popular personalities in France, Jean-Pierre Pernaut died Wednesday at the age of 71 as a result of his lung cancer. For 33 years, he had established himself as the king of midday news, with a formula based on proximity, AFP reports.

He succeeded Yves Mourousi, then boss of 13 heures, in 1988. At the time, this newspaper attracted only 2.5 million viewers, behind that of Antenne 2. With Jean-Pierre Pernaut at the helm, he doubled every day, with an audience share regularly exceeding 40% and a considerable gap over the competition.
