Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Nexford University in Washington D.C.

The appointment of Obiageli Ezekwesili was shared by the U.S Mission in Nigeria in a congratulatory message to her on Saturday 18th December 2021.

The message released by the U.S Mission in Nigeria on the appointment, reads:

“Kudos to Obiageli Ezekwesili on her appointment to the Board of Directors of Nexford University in Washington D.C. due to her deep experience in creating sustainable value and driving strategy in the education sector. Proud to see continued examples of growing ties between the United States and Nigeria. Congratulations!,” the message added.

On her part, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili reacting to the message and news, took to her official social media handle to appreciate the mission, saying:

“Yes, very delighted to join Nexford University board. I am the impatient optimist, desirous of seeing scale and speed in building up the diversity of talents and skills that my country and continent need to reverses our lag in development.
The innovative digital university model is a way,” she said.

The Statement By The Institution On The Appointment Of Obiageli And Others:

According to the statement released by the school on Thursday 16th December 2021, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili and Driek Desmet and three were appointed into its management team. Others are Dr. Jennifer Bangoura, Dr. Nancy Rubin, and Dr. Cathy Plunkett.

The school stated that these individuals were appointed based on their track records and proven leadership, which they believe will help them on their mission to enable greater social and economic mobility across the world by providing learners access to high-quality, affordable, dynamic online education that prepares them for the global workplace.

Dr. Obiageli Ezekswesili said:

“Having been on Nexford University’s advisory board I am delighted to now join the university’s Board of Directors to help advance the mission of this innovation-pioneering institution that is setting the pace in the delivery of world class affordable education and producing high quality talent at scale.”

Dr. Obiageli Ezekswesili recently joined Yale University as a Senior Fellow, and is an economic policy expert and a globally renowned figure in human capital development. Dr. Ezekswesili (known as Oby) is a former Vice President of the World Bank, co-founder and founding director of Transparency International, Founder-CEO of Human Capital Africa and has served as Nigeria’s Education Minister. She worked with world-renowned economics professor Jeffrey Sachs at the Center for International Development at Harvard, as the Director of the Harvard-Nigeria Economic Strategy Project. Her extensive knowledge of the education sector will drive Nexford’s efforts in creating education to employment opportunities across Africa.
