Hollywood actor, Colin Firth and his wife of 22-years, Livia Giuggioli have announced their separation. The news of their separation was announced by their publicist on Friday 13th December 2019.
According to the statement by their publicist, the Colin Firth and Livia have asked for media privacy, while they work out their divorce. The statement reads:
“Colin and Livia Firth have separated. They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children. They kindly ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
Although the news has come as a surprise to many, considering how long they have been married, but for others, it was just a matter of time before the two go public with the news of their separation. This is so because Livia and Colin had revealed over two years ago that she had a relationship with another man, an Italian journalist while they were briefly separated.
The split happened in 2015, during which time Livia reconnected with a former childhood friend, Marco Brancaccia.
The fling was revealed when Livia accused Brancaccia of stalking her. The case was later dropped and settled out of court.
Colin previously discussed his relationship with Livia in interviews, speaking candidly about the effort needed to make a marriage work.
During an interview on Piers Morgan’s US talk show, he told the presenter.
“You just you navigate things on a daily basis,” he said. “We are crazy about each other. We’re very committed on a daily basis to how we deal with our family lives.
“But the real secret is time – we have to make sure that we spend enough time together. Every relationship in life you’re going to have to take care of, there’s a marathon factor to it.”
The pair were most recently photographed together in September while attending the Green Carpet Fashion Awards during the Milan Fashion Week, first met on the set of the BBC drama Nostromo in 1996 and married in Tuscany a year later.
Livia is a film producer and ethical fashion campaigner, who co-founded Eco-Age, a marketing company which focuses on the environment and sustainability.
They share sons Luca, 18, and Matteo, 16, and Colin Firth has another child from a previous marriage.
