The immediate past President of the United States of America, and a controversial figure, Donald Trump has paid a tribute to late Secretary of State, Colin Powell, where he slammed him on the Iraq war. He also condemned the media for a favourable coverage of the death of the former Secretary of State.
Trump in his tribute to Colin Powell, blamed the late US Secretary of State for the Iraq war, saying: “Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media.” Trump said in a statement.
“Colin Powell made a lot of mistakes but hey, may he rest in peace!”, Donald Trump had said in his tribute message on Tuesday.
Donald Trump’s scathing statement which is coming a day after the death of the former Secretary of State under ex-president George W. Bush, also denounced the media coverage of the event, deeming it far too laudatory for the politician.
Trump also said that “I hope that will happen to me someday too,” wrote the former business tycoon.
Donald Trump also accused Colin Powell of being a “Rino”[Republican in name only], who always quick to attack other Republicans”.
The former Secretary of State died at the age of 84 of complications related to Covid-19, drawing tributes from all over the American political spectrum, in particular from Democratic President Joe Biden .
Powell has always been very critical of Donald Trump. In 2016, he backed Hillary Clinton against the billionaire, and four years later announced his decision to vote for Joe Biden, accusing the Republican president of “lying all the time.”
