Captain Ahmed Musa Marks His 100th Cap. For Eagles

Captain Ahmed Musa has finally made his 100 appearances for the Nigerian senior national team side, the Super Eagles. This is coming after world football governing body FIFA had in a statement on September 8th 2021, denied the Super Eagles captain an early celebration to his 100th appearance for the National team.

According to the statement from FIFA correcting the error made by NFF, the body stated that the Super Eagles Captain Ahmed Musa only had 98 caps as of September 8th, and not 100 as wrongly reported by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

FIFA on Wednesday 8th September 2021, had stated that Super Eagles Captain Ahmed Musa will hit 100 caps possibly in Nigeria’s double-header against the Central Africa Republic in October, and having played in both legs in Lagos and in Cameroon, he has finally achieved that mark today.

He is now the third Nigerian player to reach the centurion after Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama.

Captain Ahmed Musa who was awarded a N10million prize for reaching 100th cap for the Eagles, and before the record was corrected by FIFA, on Sunday 10th October 2021, captained the Eagles to a convincing victory against the Central African Republic in Cameroon, where Nigeria won 0-2. The victory comes after a shocking defeat from the Central African Republic in Lagos at the ongoing FIFA world qualifiers for Qatar 2022 World Cup.

What Ahmed Musa Said About Reaching 100 Cap Then?

The former Kano Pillars and Leicester City forward whose name Nigerians will never forget in a hurry, given his outstanding performance at the last FIFA world cup, a few days ago, made a public post thanking God, fans and teammates for everything.

He had said:

“I can’t keep calm as we keep winning. Thanks to my family, my teammates, fans and not forgetting the NFF. I want to specially mention it’s my 100th cap for the team as well. It’s an absolute honour & privilege to serve in this capacity. All of these wouldn’t have been possible without you guys as there is no ‘I’ in the team.

You guys rock. Thanks so much once again. Here’s to more wins,” he added.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa was celebrated and gifted with the sum of N10million naira by the NFF, for reaching 100 national team caps for the Super Eagles.

The N10million naira cash prize was announced by the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick. The cash prize came immediately after the game between Cape Verde and Nigeria on Tuesday 7th September 2021, in which Nigeria won 1-2 to top Group C.

Amaju Pinnick in making the promise to Ahmed Musa, said from now on, any of the Super Eagles players who reach a 100 cap for the Super Eagles, will be given the sum of N10million naira cash prize, and they are starting this with Ahmed Musa.

Amaju Pinnick while also reacting to the victory away from home by the Super Eagles, said the win shows that there is no such thing as Super Eagles team A or B or C. He also praised the players for their gallant displays and for going for all three points in a hostile environment.
