Pastor Reno Omokri is adding his voice to the national political debate on whether or not Power should shift to the South, given that the Nigerian Northern region will by 2023, complete a 8-year-term gentlemanly agreement on Power rotation between the north and south. But Reno in his controversial ways, said he is supporting the stand of the Northern Governor’s Forum which rejected the call by the South for a power shift to South come 2023.

Mr Reno Omokri whose political party, and the major opposition party in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are themselves rumoured to be looking to zone their 2023 Presidential ticket to the North, took to his official social media handle on Tuesday 28th September 2021, and in a quick reaction to the statement credited to the Northern Governor’s Forum on rejecting a Power Shift to South, said this will teach those from the Southern part of Nigeria a lesson on unity. He said this while also bringing up the Presidential election of 2015, which removed former President Jonathan and his principal from power. He said:

I support Northern Governors Forum’s rejection of power shift to the South. Let power remain in the North after 2023 to teach Southerners the power of unity. Southerners united with Northerners to betray an innocent Southerner in 2015 and expect Northerners to trust them? Even you, will you trust someone who sells his next door neighbour to you? Betrayers are by their very nature unreliable,” he said.

He continued by adding that:

If they can betray one so close to them to you, they can also betray you to others. Look at Femi Fani-Kayode. No Northerner can ever exhibit such a trait! Tueh!,” he added.

Power Shift To South: What Northern Governor’s Forum Said?

The Northern States Governors’ Forum had on Monday opposed the call by its Southern counterpart that the Presidency should move to the South in 2023.

The northern governors, who stated this at their meeting in Kaduna, said the call by the Southern Governors’ Forum was against the constitution of the country.

The statement is coming a few days after the southern governours at their recent meeting in Enugu reiterated their demand that the Presidency should shift to the South in 2023.

On Monday, the northern governors said although some of them had endorsed the Southern governors’ call for power shift to the South, the regional governors collectively condemned such a call.

They said the statement by their Southern counterparts contradicted the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

They added that the elected President must meet the requirements which include getting “the majority votes, scoring at least 25 per cent of the votes cast in two thirds of the states of the federation; in case of a runoff, a simple majority win.”
