Super Eagles Captain Musa Has 98 Caps Not 100 - FIFA

Super Eagles captain Musa has 98 caps for the Nigeria football national team, and not 100 caps as wrongly reported by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). This was according to the world football governing body, FIFA, which corrected the error made by NFF on Tuesday.

FIFA on Wednesday 8th September 2021, said Super Eagles Captain Musa will hit 100 caps possibly in Nigeria’s double-header against the Central Africa Republic next month.

He would be the third Nigerian player to reach the centurion after Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama.

Reports have it that the disparity in the record by the NFF and FIFA comes from two games where Musa featured for Nigeria but the matches were not recognized by the football governing body.

The games are the unofficial friendly against Togo in 2017, which the Eagles won 3-0.
Musa featured and scored two goals in the game.

The second game is a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria, which ended 1-1 in Constantine.

The result was overturned by FIFA and Algeria was awarded a 3-0 win after Nigeria fielded an ineligible player (Abdullahi Shehu) for the game.

Super Eagles captain Musa was celebrated and gifted with the sum of N10million naira by the NFF, for reaching 100 national team caps for the Super Eagles.

The N10million naira cash prize was announced by the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick. The cash prize came immediately after the game between Cape Verde and Nigeria on Tuesday in which Nigeria won 1-2 to top Group C.

Amaju Pinnick in making the promise to Ahmed Musa, said from now on, any of the Super Eagles players who reach a 100 cap for the Super Eagles, will be given the sum of N10million naira cash prize, and they are starting this with Ahmed Musa.

Amaju Pinnick while also reacting to the victory away from home by the Super Eagles, said the win shows that there is no such thing as Super Eagles team A or B or C. He also praised the players for their gallant displays and for going for all three points in a hostile environment.
