Anambra state government has received and recognised deserving athletes who made the state proud at the recently concluded National Sports Festival, Edo 2020.
Governor Willie Obiano received the athletes at his Aguleri Countryhome in Anambra East Council Area.
The athletes who won a total of thirty-seven medals, were presented by the state chairman of Sports and Development Commission, Mr. Tony Oli.
The Anambra team won six gold, nine silver and twenty-two bronze medals at the EDO 2020 Sports Festival.
The high point of the event was the presentation of the ten-year-old Stephanie Onuzurike who won one gold, two silver medals and one bronze and presently the overall best gymnast in Nigeria.
While gold medalists were presented with cheques worth one million naira each, silver medalists received five hundred thousand naira, as well as bronze medalists who went home with two hundred and fifty thousand naira each.
Anambra state government also specially recognised coaches, while the overall best coach went home with one million naira.
