South Africa’s Dr Patrice Motsepe has been elected as the new President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). His election took place at the 43rd General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco on Friday.

Dr Patrice Motsepe will now replace Ahmad Ahmad, ex-CAF president who was banned for five years by FIFA for abusing his office, mishandling funds and trading in gifts.

Ahmad Ahmad has been the president of the Confederation of African Football and a FIFA vice president since 2017, and his ban was related to his conduct from 2017 to 2019.

According to a statement released by FIFA’s ethics body, Ahmad was found guilty of breaching four separate articles of the organization’s ethics code, including abuse of office, misappropriation of funds and rules concerning the offering and acceptance of gifts.

Congratulations to Motsepe as we await the first official statement from the new CAF President.
