The Oyo state government is taking a step further for an all-inclusive government and most importantly, to continue to promote a harmonious relationship between the Muslims and Christians in the state, by moving to declare Hijrah Day as a public holiday in the state.

The Governor, Seyi Makinde who attended Hijrah Day with the Muslim community in the state on Wednesday 24th February 2021, a day after the reopening of Sasa community market, after the violent crisis in the local government, said his visit to the Hijrah Day get-together was him compensating the Muslim community for missing Maulud Nabiyi last year.

He said:

“Today, we had a get together with the Muslim community of Oyo State to compensate for missing Maulud Nabiy last year. I thanked everyone for their prayers and used the opportunity to announce that henceforth, we would resume observing Hijrah as a public holiday in our state,”.

Hijrah according to findings, is the Prophet Muhammad’s migration (622 ce) from Mecca to Yathrib (Medina) upon invitation in order to escape persecution.
