Sunday Igboho’s house located at Soka Ibadan Oyo state, was allegedly razed by suspected arsonists. This is coming a few days after he led some youths to chase out killer herdsmen in the state.
The Police are yet to release a statement confirming the incident which could be a retaliation on his move against the suspected killer herdsmen in the state. But Sunday Igboho himself, reacting to the incident which happened in the early hours of Tuesday, took to his official Twitter handle to say that his house was razed by suspected arsonists.
Reports said the fire at Sunday Igboho’s house, which started around 3am was quickly put out by firefighters from the Oyo State Fire Service.
Recall that we reported here that Sunday Igboho, at the expiration of the ultimatum issued to herdsmen last week, had led his followers in their thousands to Fulani settlement in Igangan to eject Seriki Fulani, Salihu Abdukadir, and herdsmen accused of perpetrating crimes ranging from kidnappings, killings, rape to invasion of farmlands with their cattle. But we are still not sure if both are connected, as we await Police report.
Some houses and property in the settlement of the Fulanis were torched but Igboho had distanced himself from the incident, saying aggrieved youths and residents of the town were responsible for the destruction.
Before the sad incident at Sunday Igboho’s house, the South-West Governors and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) together with the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) held talks on Monday where they agreed that open grazing or “free-range grazing must be stopped. ”
The NGF and MACBAN also resolved that night grazing should be banned henceforth, and that a standing committee be constituted in each state to ensure a harmonious relationship between herders and farmers.
