The Ugandan authorities are reported to have dropped the charges against Omah Lay, Tems and one other Nigerian.

Although we cannot substantiate these claims, as the Ugandan Police which published and shared photos of the arrested Nigerians are yet to confirm this. But the latest development if true, is coming a day after the trio were arrested and charged to court for violating the COVID-19 rules in the country.

The arrests of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi who are looking at seven years in prison if found guilty, according to the Ugandan laws, have generated alot of condemnation around the world, as fans and Nigerians alike are calling for their immediate and unconditional release.

The Ugandan Authorities had in a statement on Monday 14th December 2020, where they were giving an update on the case, stated that the Nigerians were charged in Makindye on charges of negligence which are likely to spread COVID-19, and violation of the panel code Act.

The statement reads:
“The Nigerian trio of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been charged to court in Makindye on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.

The earlier plans of releasing them on police bond, were suspended after their casefile was sanctioned by the Office of the DPP. They were jointly charged with four other Ugandans. All remanded till Wednesday 16.12.2020,” the statement added.

On Tuesday, while #freetemsAndOmahLay trended for the second day, after the news of their arrest went viral, some Twitter tweeted saying charges against the Nigerians have been dropped. Here is the tweet:
