Paul Pogba tested positive to coronavirus, as the Manchester United midfielder joins the long list of players in the last 24hours to have tested positive to the virus.
The news that Paul Pogba tested positive to coronavirus, was revealed by his national team manager, Didier Deschamps and his club, Manchester United on Thursday. He has already gone into the mandatory 14-days self-isolation.
Unlike what it used to be when the virus first broke out, with people moving and associating with caution, now, a lot of people especially footballers, seems to have thrown all that caution into the wind, as they party in crowds not minding if they get the virus or not.
The case of Paul Pogba and other cases of Premier League players reported in the last hours are a perfect example. But what this means for Paul Pogba now is that he will miss France’s Nations League game in Sweden on Saturday, 5th September 2020 and the home game against Croatia three days later.
However, Pogba could be eligible for selection for United’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on 19 September.
His club said: “Everybody at United wishes Paul a speedy recovery ahead of the new season.”
Pogba will be replaced in the France squad by 17-year-old Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
“I’ve completed, at the very last minute, a change in the list,” Deschamps said on Thursday.
“Paul Pogba, who was previously on the list, unfortunately for him he carried out a test yesterday which was returned as positive this morning.”
