Timo Werner has had his first training session as Chelsea player, a day after he announced that he has touched down in London. He was also part of a few at the V.I.P stand to see Chelsea beat Wolves 2-0 to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The former RB Leipzig winger who signed for Chelsea for £52million, posted to Instagram that he is officially a Chelsea player, spotting Chelsea kits as he has his training session alone.

This will be his second post referencing his new club, after touching down in London. Before Chelsea’s game on Sunday, he had also captioned a photo on his social media page with the caption ‘Landed in… Guess where?’ as he posed on an airport runway before making his way to Stamford Bridge for Sunday’s game.

Chelsea qualifying for the Champions League is a big boost for Timo Werner, who has been vindicated by his decision to join Frank Lampard’s men.

Werner left Leipzig as their all-time top goalscorer after a sensational season, seeing the Bundesliga side finish third thanks largely to their talisman’s 28 goals in 34 league games.

Lampard will expect similar totals to help propel Chelsea back towards a title challenge next season after the Stamford Bridge hierarchy moved quickly to snap up Werner on a five-year deal worth £175,000 a week.

The Blues are building a formidable squad for next season, with Ziyech’s £37m move from Ajax looking set to be backed up by a £90m swoop for Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz – taking the summer spending to over £170m.

Though stars like N’Golo Kante, Willian and Ross Barkley could depart to raise funds and free-up the wage bill, the Blues’ attack looks set to shine in 2020-21.

The Champions League qualification could also see Kai Havertz joining the Blues, as that was one of the concerns raised, but he never made it a must.
