Nigerian and Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala has joined Lionel Messi and her other Barcelona teammates ,to officially unveil Barcelona new kit for the 2020/2021 season.
Asisat Oshoala who is a four-time African footballer of the year, and known better as Star Girl, was photographed spotting her signature gold colour hair, as she poses to unveil the Barcelona new kit which is inspired by the club’s design from the 1920s.
The Barcelona new kit were unveiled on Tuesday 14th July 2020, as the Nike designed Jersey shows some interesting details. The new kits have vertical stripes at the back on the Blaugrana kits, alongside the famed blue and red/maroon colours of their club, there is also gold on the collar, sleeves and to separate the two primary colour.
The Senyera – the flag of Catalonia, the region of Spain from which Barcelona hail from is also on the back of the new shirt.
The club are advertising the Barcelona new kit under the term ‘Only for Culers’ which is a nod to the term ‘Culers’ from which the Catalan club’s fans have become known as.
The term gained prominence in the early part of the 20th century when fans sat along the top of stands, meaning that passers-by on the streets surrounding the stadiums could only see a row of people’s bums (translating as ‘culs’ in Catalan).
The 1920s was the era when Barcelona drastically grew as a club, winning the 1928 cup final (now known as the Copa del Rey) against Real Sociedad and winning the inaugural Primera league title in 1929.
Asisat Oshoala who only joined the team a few days ago, as she is set to restart the new season with her other teammates, will be putting on the new Barcelona kits to defend the league they won last season.
While the male team of Barcelona are not sure of winning the La Liga title this season, Asisat Oshoala and the Barcelona female team, are already Champions of Spain, after they emerged Spanish Primera Iberdrola champions following the abrupt ending of the 2019-20 season.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RSFF) made attempts to complete the 2019-20 season but the inability to meet the government’s health protocol dashed their hopes, hence the termination. They were crowned champions for the first time since 2015.
