Leipzig and German forward, Timo Werner is reported to be pushing for an early exit from club, to speed up his move to English Premier League side, Chelsea. The player is clearly giving up a chance of Champions League glory with Red Bull Leipzig where he contributed so much for them to be in the knock-out stage.

Timo Werner is set to sign for the Blues after the club indicated they would trigger his £53million release clause. With league seasons suspended across Europe, campaigns are set to end at different times and the starting date of the transfer window is yet to be determined.

The Champions League looks set to be completed in a mini-tournament in Portugal in August but it could be just weeks before next season’s Premier League season starts.

Leipzig knocked Tottenham out in the last-16 to progress to the quarter-finals but according to Bild Timo Werner has given up the chance to compete in the remainder of the tournament as he wants to become a Chelsea player in July.

The Blues are still in the competition but face an uphill task to progress after Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the sides’ first leg in March.

Werner would be cup-tied for Chelsea’s second leg but nevertheless, he doesn’t want to wait to make his move as he wants to hit the ground running in west London
