Belgian and Manchester United midfielder, Marouane Fellaini has just confirmed he has signed a new two-year contract with the Red Devil that will keep him at the club till 2020, with an option for a possible one-year extension after the expiration of the new contract in 2020.

The midfielder who is not actually the favourite at the Old Trafford Arena confirmed the news while thanking manager Jose Mourinho for making the new contract happen. He said he was very happy to have made the decision to stay, after having a discussion with the Portuguese manager. He said:

I am pleased to be continuing my journey as a Manchester United player. I made this decision because I am very happy here. Also, I feel like this team, under Jose, still has a lot we want to achieve. I would like to say a special thank you to Jose for the faith he has always shown in me. My focus now is on the World Cup but I am looking forward to a successful season ahead.

Marouane Fellaini who is still in faraway Russia with his fellow countrymen at the ongoing Russia 2018 FIFA World cup, had a not too good season last season, and even at the first season of Jose Mourinho. But at the second spell of Jose Mourinho, he became a critical part of the team, especially when the team needs to play the long balls, which saw him netting home some crucial goals for the club.

This signing and the coming of Brazilian Fred could further jeopardize his chances of first-team games. It will be difficult for Fellaini to still make the starting line-up, in a new looking Manchester United team where football pundits are already predicting a midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Fred and Matic. The likes of Fellaini and Herrera could be acting as a backup for the three.
