Hollywood actor Hartley Sawyer has been fired from his role as Ralph Dibny on “The Flash” after racist tweets from his past were exposed, Hollywood reporter reports.

According to the report, Hartley Sawyer was fired by the network after misogynist and racist tweets from 2012 surfaced. The actor starred on the show for the past three seasons.

The tweets included joking about sexual assault, “Date rape myself so I don’t have to masturbate.” In another, he wrote, “Super Bowl! America! 80% of the prison population is African-American.”

“just kidding I don’t care and fags are fine but sports often make me snore,” he wrote in a reply

“The only thing stopping me from doing mildly racist tweets is the knowledge that Al Sharpton would never stop complaining about me. If I had a wife I would beat the hell out of her tonight lol, “Hartley Sawyer tweeted.

Another disgusting message read, “As a lad, one of my favourite activities was kidnapping homeless women and cutting off their breasts.”

The CW and producers released a statement about their decision. It read, “Hartley Sawyer will not be returning for season seven of The Flash. In regards to Mr Sawyer’s posts on social media, we do not tolerate derogatory remarks that target any race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation. Such remarks are antithetical to our values and policies, which strive and evolve to promote a safe, inclusive and productive environment for our workforce.”

Showrunner Eric Wallace released his own statement, “This morning, many of you learned that Hartley Sawyer will not be returning for season seven of The Flash. Concerning his social media tweets, they broke my heart and made me mad as hell. And they’re indicative of the larger problem in our country.”

After his tweets started getting called out Sawyer issued an apology reading, “My words, irrelevant of being meant with an intent of humour, were hurtful, and unacceptable.

I am ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply. This was not acceptable behaviour. These were words I threw out at the time with no thought or recognition of the harm my words could do, and now have done today.”
