Popular Nigerian Comedian Bovi has paid a tribute to Nigerian music legend and reggae king, Majekodunmi Fasheke, known as Majek Fashek a.k.a. the Rainmaker, whose death was announced on Monday 1st June 2020.
Majek Fashek died at the age of 57, his manager Omenka Uzoma confirmed the death of the rainmaker, singer-songwriter and guitarist via an Instagram video.
Bovi joining other Nigerians to mourn the death of Majek Fashek, took to his social media to express his sadness to the news.
Taking to his Instagram he thanked the late Majek Fashek for blessing the world with his talent, prophesies, messages and spirit.
The comedian did not stop there, he also used the opportunity to speak on the young girls raped and killed recently in Nigeria, and other late politicians, musicians and activists. He said:
“MESSAGE TO THE GREAT BEYOND. Dear Majek, thank you for blessing us with your prophecies, your messages and your spirit. As you journey to the great beyond, help us beg Uwa to forgive us. Tell her that if her blood cries for vengeance, it will follow offsprings who had no hand in the matter. Tell her that her predators will know no peace till they confess and pay”, he started his message.
Comedian Bovi continued:
“Please tell Tina that it was a trigger happy cop that shot her to death. She’s been asking why she’s in heaven and how she got there. Because she only remembers she was on her way home. Tell her he has been arrested but it may not stop another shooting.
We live in fear. Please tell MLK that over 50 years after he died, his America is witnessing the type of riots that sprang up when he was killed. Please tell Fela that everything he said still remains relevant till today. His message is still a stimulant for the struggle for the common man.
Please send our greetings to Ras Kimono, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Gani Fawehinmi, Ojukwu, Lucky Dube, 2pac, Steve Biko, Ernesto Che Guevara, Kudirat, Isaac Boro, Bob Marley, Nelson Mandela and all other freedom fighters in the great beyond. Lastly, help me stroll to the chapel, find my mama. You will know her from her smile. Give her a warm embrace from me! Thank you baba Majek! You live on in our hearts”, he added.
At aged 17, Majek gained popularity through his 1988 album “Prisoner of Conscience”, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain”, thus earning him the nickname “Rainmaker”
The musician also worked with stars like Jimmy Cliff, Tracy Chapman and Snoop Dogg.
Born to an Ijesha father and a Bini mother, Majek had a long-running battle with his health and was hospitalised at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, London in November 2019.
