Delta State has recorded her first case of the novel coronavirus, as the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria as at 9:30pm 7th Tuesday April 2020, hits 254.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Tuesday 7th April 2020, at about 9:30 pm, announced that sixteen new cases of the Coronavirus have been confirmed in some states across the country, and among the confirmed cases is the first case in Delta State.
According to NCDC, the sixteen new cases were ten confirmed cases in Lagos; two cases were recorded in the FCT, two in Oyo, one in Delta and one in Katsina.
Governor Okowa of Delta State, who alos confirmed the first case in Delta State, said the confirmed index case is already receiving necessary treatment at one of the centres in the State.
The Governor taking to his social media handle, said:
“This evening, a patient in Delta State tested positive for the #COVID19 virus. This index case is already receiving the necessary treatment at one of our isolation centers,” he said.
He also said that by tomorrow Wednesday 8th April 2020, he will be addressing the citizens of Delta State on developments surrounding the first case in the state.
He said:
“Again, I ask that you all remain calm at this time and continue to adhere to the precautionary measures and isolation directives that we have put in place to keep you and your families safe. I have no doubt whatsoever that we will all get through this together,” he added.
The Governor had a few days ago, dispelled rumour of a coronavirus outbreak in the state, where he called the news “fake news”. But had acknowledged that there were tests carried out on three suspected coronavirus patients and the results all came out negative.
He had said:
“I received the results of three patients in Delta State who exhibited symptoms from the medical team at Irrua Specialist Training Hospital in Edo State. I am pleased to report that the results came back negative.
Despite tonight’s results, we remain on high alert and will continue to take all the necessary precautions to keep you all safe. I ask all the families and communities across our great state to continue to work with us by adhering to the measures that we have put in place.
