A few hours after being dragged around the Nigerian social media street, for deliberately violating the social Distancing order imposed by the government as Nigeria battle to contain the spread of coronavirus, Funke Akindele has finally apologized for endangering her life, that of her friends, family and ultimately that of Lagosians to the coronavirus pandemic.
Funke Akindele who had hitherto posted a message on her Twitter handle sounding very unbothered when she was being called out by some Nigerians about her actions, made a short video that she posted on her social media apologizing for hosting a birthday party going against the directives given to all Nigerians by the Government, through the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC.
In the video, she spoke about how the crowd ended up at her place, speaking of how she built a studio that looks like a mini community where she normally shoot her “Jenifa’s Diary” and other things with over a 100 staff. But not all of them were present during the birthday party on Saturday.
She also said that the guests at her husband’s birthday party and herself have been together before the lockdown was announced by President Muhammadu Buhari and they decided to stay together while also adhering to directives.
See had captioned the video with:
“I hear you all and I acknowledge all your honest feedback.
I also thank you for your concerns, well wishes and calls.
I am sorry and hope this video offers some explanation.
Please stay safe. And God bless. @lagosstategovt,” she said.
The Jenifa’s Diary act was dragged for hosting a birthday party for her husband inside a crowded room with friends and family members, which clearly was a violating of directives given by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) inorder to slow down the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
Funke Akindele who coincidentally, is said to be an Ambassador to NCDC and one of those that has been preaching against social gathering, and urging for social distancing during this period, was caught on tape violating what she has been preaching against.
After a video from the birthday party she hosted for her husband surfaced online showing a crowded room with her friends and family member celebrating, despite the lockdown and social distancing order, Nigerians who have been at a disadvantage with the whole lockdown order, trooped to social media to call her out for risking the lives of others just for the sake of celebrating a birthday.
