Coronavirus: English Premier League To Wait Until At least April 30th

The English Premier League will not resume until at least April 30th 2020, as authorities keep monitoring the spread of the coronavirus in the United Kingdom and across the world.

According to the statement released on Thursday by the Football Association and clubs management, they agreed to extend the current season given that the EURO 2020 competition has already been postponed until 2021. This has opened the possibilities of Leagues across Europe being extended to June and July.

Under current rules, the season had been scheduled to end on 1 June.

A joint statement issued by the FA and EFL expressed “a commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019-20 season” and completing all domestic and European matches “as soon as it is safe and possible to do so”.

All games in England’s Premier League, EFL, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship, and all fixtures in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are currently postponed.

This will also affect the Champions League and the Europa fixtures and even the pre-season and transfer market windows. But the good news for everyone right now is that the League will not be void, and Liverpool are likely to be crown champions after 30years.

Fifa has also established a working group to tackle the issues facing football as a result of the pandemic. The group will look at the international fixture calendar, and issues around player contracts.
