Explosion: Lagos State Set Up N2bn Emergency Relief Fund

The Lagos State Government on Monday 16th March 2020, announced that they have set up N2billion naira emergency Relief Fund with the sum of N250 million already made available by the State Government, to provide instant relief for affected residents.

This was made known to the public by Governor Sanwo-Olu who was at the scene of the unfortunate incident on Monday morning.

The Governor while speaking on his visit to the scene of the explosion incident in Abule-Ado and Ado-Soba towns in Amuwo-Odofin area of the State, met with the victims and took stock of the needless loss of lives and the large-scale destruction of assets engulfed in the eruption.

“We would not stop expressing our sincere condolences to the bereaved families who lost loved ones and residents whose properties were extensively destroyed in the inferno.

I commiserate with the students and management of Bethlehem school who lost their teachers, and everyone in the neighbourhood who lost their means of livelihood.

This level of destruction is rather unfortunate and alarming, as a responsible and responsive government, we have set up an intergovernmental and multi-sectoral committee chaired by the Deputy Governor and assisted by the Commissioner for Special Duties, to immediately embark on an investigative mission to determine the remote cause of the incident, and to also oversee the relief fund we have set up for the victims”.

Governor Sanwo-Olu speaking on the establishment of a Emergency Relief Fund, said:

“Beyond identifying the cause of the explosion, we have set up a N2 billion Emergency Relief Fund, with the sum of N250 million instantly made available by the State Government, to provide instant relief for affected residents.

To show our level of commitment to the Relief Fund, we have opened three bank accounts in Polaris, Zenith and Guaranty Trust Banks respectively with details in my previous post.
We urge well-meaning Nigerians and Corporate Organizations to support and partner with us on this journey.

I will also be meeting with His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari later today to brief him on the incident, as the support and cooperation of the Federal Government is essential” he said.
