The embattled President of the United States of America, President Donald Trump has congratulated Boris Johnson and the Conservative party on their ‘great win’ at the UK elections, saying he is looking forward to working with the Prime Minister.
The message by Trump, came after the Tories passed the required threshold of 326 seats, defeating the Labour Party who had 191 to take a clear majority at the House of Commons at the just concluded UK elections.
President Trump in his congratulatory message to the UK Prime Minister said:
“great win” “now free to strike a massive new trade deal after Brexit”.
The U.S President said the agreement had the potential to be “far bigger and more lucrative” than any deal which could have been made with the European Union.
Mr Trump had earlier tweeted to say that it was “looking like” Mr Johnson was on course for a “big win”
He Tweeted this on Friday 13th December 2019 on his official twitter handle:
“Congratulations to Boris Johnson on his great WIN! Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after BREXIT.
“This deal has the potential to be far bigger and more lucrative than any deal that could be made with the E.U. Celebrate Boris!” he said.
President Trump who since becoming President has witnessed different leaders emerging from the United Kingdom favours Boris Johnson to put things right, and the votes are signs that the people are with him, especially on his Brexit plans.
He has never hidden his likeness to the UK Prime Minister, as even when Theresa May was still the Prime Minister, he still favoured his lookalike, Boris to lead the United Kingdom.
He was even quoted to have said Boris would make a “great” Prime Minister.
This close relation or bromance between them might have made Trump ignored Boris Johnson’s role when a tape surfaced online showing Boris and some other NATO leaders, Canadian Justin Trudeau, Macron gossiping about Trump behind his back when Allied Heads of State and Government gathered in London to commemorate the 70th anniversary of NATO.
We are waiting to see how this election helps improve the UK and U.S relationship, and even the European Union in the coming days.
