A call has been made for stakeholders in the Power sector to collaborate and work together if they are to effectively deliver on their mandate.

The Minister of Power, Engr. Sale Mamman made this call while delivering his keynote address at the opening session of a 2-day retreat organized by the Ministry for Directors, Chief Executives of Parastatals and Heads of Unit in Calabar recently.

While speaking at the event which had as its theme, ‘Building Synergy for Effective Service Delivery in the Power Sector’, the Minister said, “The theme recognizes the specific challenges of coordination and collaboration which need to be addressed positively if the Ministry is to make positive progress and even exceed the huge expectations that Mr. President, and indeed the entire nation trust us to deliver on.”

He further stated that in line with the spirit of the retreat, “There is need for a change of mind set by encouraging positive thinking if the Ministry must achieve results and deliver its goals and mandate”.

The Minister therefore advised that the retreat consider how stakeholders in the power sector can apply or adopt federal government’s approach to effective project delivery as captured in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

Mamman stressed five critical areas stakeholders must thrive to synergize on to achieve greater results, which are to ensure electricity market liquidity and sustainability; address infrastructural alignment; fast track implementation of FGN interventions projects; increase universal access to electricity services; and strengthen sector coordination and policy direction.

Also speaking, the Minister of State, Goddy Jedy-Agba, said the power sector is the engine room of the nation’s economy which other sectors rely on to engage in the execution of their respective responsibilities as such, the retreat was meant to address gaps in operations existing between the Ministry and its Agencies and establish a good working relationship for the implementation of government policies aimed at achieving the mandate.
