Manchester United on Saturday, made yet another statement, as they took all three points from yet another title contender and city rival, Manchester City, beating them 1-2 in the Manchester Derby. This comes a few days after they beat Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, marking their best performance since the start to the current season.

The Manchester derby, as usual, was a thrilling one, as it had everything, with both teams giving it all their all  until the last whistle. But it was the goals from in-form Marcus Rashford and Martial that made the difference on the night.

Manchester United with little possession as usual, took to their defensive shape keeping a usually free-scoring City attack at bay until Nicolas Otamendi scored a late consolation as the Manchester derby ended 1-2.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking after to Sky Sports after the match, had this to say on his team performance:

We concede three or four counter-attacks in the first half, they were clinical but I am more than happy for our performance. We pushed them, we created chances. In general I am happy with the performance. No regrets.

“I know who we are as a team. I am delighted to work with these guys. W tried and we tried in the second half. Unfortunate we scored late and could not turn the result.

“It is not time to think about that. We have to think about what we have to do and think about the next game. Doesn’t matter if six, eight or 14 points we have to continue. We are a fantastic team.”

On the title race:We have to try to continue, there are many things to play for. It’s difficult because the opponents are on an incredible run winning 15 games out of 16.

On reports of racism and it not being acceptable:Of course not. I think the club are making a statement and I support that.”

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer speaking on the outcome of the game, said:

The team shape was spot on, but individually they had to dig deep against some of the best players in the world. That’s part of the game. It was a memorable night for Aaron [Wan Bissaka] who has been unbelievable since coming to club.

“You defend so well but you are disappointed that you concede on a corner, which is not their strength but I can’t complain to much.

“David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world. We’ve expected high standards off him and he is getting back to his best.

On reports of racist abuse“I’ve seen it on the video, it was Jesse and Fred and the fella must be ashamed of himself. It’s unacceptable and I hope he will not be watching any football anymore.”
