Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the new manager of English Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur. This latest news comes a day after the sacking of longtime manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy decided to sack Pochettino following a poor run of results this season, ending the coach’s five-and-a-half years at the club.

Jose Mourinho was appointed hours later on a deal until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Chairman Daniel Levy while speaking on the shocking appointment, said: “In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”

Speaking on his appointment, Mourinho said: “I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

According to the report by UK Evening Standard, talks between Spurs and Jose Mourinho progressed steadily last night, and the club have now confirmed that the 56-year-old Portuguese will be the next man in the hotseat.

Mourinho arrives with a world-class pedigree for delivering silverware, with Pochettino’s inability to secure a single trophy at Tottenham Hotspur eventually counting against him when Levy had a decision to make.

Mourinho has won the Premier League title three times in two different spells as Chelsea coach, while his early spell at Old Trafford – winning the Europa League and Carabao Cup with a limited United squad before guiding them to second during the 2017/18 season – will not have gone unnoticed by Levy.

‘The Special One’ #Mourinho has, of course, enjoyed trophy-laden spells elsewhere, winning the Champions League with both FC Porto and Inter Milan, and domestic titles in every single league he has managed in.
