Nigerian Afrobeat King, and the self-acclaimed African Giant, Burna Boy became the first and only African and Afrobeats artist to sell out two of the largest indoor arenas in London, which are the O2 Arena and the SSE Arena.
For last night, it was the SSE Arena after previously selling out the O2 arena, where as usual, he put out an electrifying performance thrilling his fans with his ‘Gbe Body’ flying kicks. But the talk of the night, was his entrance into the arena, which was epic, as unlike his previous shows where he just runs out into the stage, this time, he emerged from the mouth of his favourite animal, a giant Gorilla to the delight of the crowd to kick off his performance on the night.
Burna Boy who has never failed to live up to his new stage name ‘The African Giant’, keeps smashing and selling out all his shows around the world, that he was recognised by the SSE Arena management for selling out the 12,500 capacity seat arena on Sunday night. But if we add those standing, the crowd on Sunday night might be up to or more than 20,000 people inside the SSE Arena, given the videos of the show shared online.
It was on the same night he was announced the winner of the MTV EMA’s Best African Act for 2019, after defeating fellow African nominees for the award.
The SSE Arena, in case you do not know, is just adjacent to the National Stadium of the English football team, ‘The Three Lions’ that has hosted many events aside football. But the SSE Arena which is located in London is used for music, comedy, family entertainment and sport, with a seating capacity of 12,500-seat which makes it the second-largest indoor arena after The O2 Arena, and the ninth-largest in the United Kingdom.
Also, Burna Boy’s SSE Arena show on Sunday saw some of the best entertainers from Nigeria, Ghana, and some British rappers/entertainers who all entertained the enthusiastic fans with their crafts all through the night. But the introduction of Wizkid to the crowd and the entrance of Burna Boy with the Gorilla was the peak of the night, as fans are still speaking about his epic entrance into the arena on social media.
The show in London on Sunday night is coming after he shut down Paris back-to-back! as the energetic Burna Boy at the end of it all, was presented with a plaque for his achievement by the SSE management. What City or Country Next? South Africa????
