The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, visits London Bakery where she was the special guest at the opening of a new location, which is one of her favourites women inspired businesses and one she has defended in the past for their work to help women who have difficulty finding their brands. She also had featured them in her Forbes magazine Issue ‘Forces For Change’.

Meghan Markle as the special guest at the new location of Luminary Bakery in Chalk Farm Road, Camden, spoke about the culture of people wanting things fixed almost immediately, saying there is a culture of instant satisfaction, instant solution. But people forget that human beings are not mechanical objects that need to be repaired.

She then helped in the decoration of a freshly baked cake, before slicing it as she was cheered by a surrounding group of women.

After listening to the women who had been victims of violence and were still trying to come back, Meghan gave her advice especially to one of the women who identified herself as Tanya, who had been stabbed by her ex-partner.

Tanya, apologising after she burst into tears, was told by the duchess that her vulnerability was not a weakness.

We get into this habit of wanting things done immediately nowadays,” Meghan was reported as telling her.

Tanya said of the shop: “Society judges women for staying in abusive relationships, but I don’t ever feel judged here. I feel I can be free, I feel I can be myself.”

Meghan Markle responding to her, said: “I was talking about it with someone the other day. We take the habit of wanting things to be done immediately these days. There is a culture of instant satisfaction, instant solution. But we are not mechanical objects that need to be repaired. You are an injured creature that needs to be healed, and it takes time. And this is what I love in this place. He gives you the support to heal”

The opening of the new Luminary shop in Camden, in addition to its branch in Stoke Newington, will mean the enterprise can offer services, support and mentoring to four times the number of women as before.

Luminary supports women who have suffered “vulnerable circumstances” such as abuse, poverty, trafficking and marginalisation. It aims to equip people with job skills and confidence.
