One of the group members of the popular music duo who sang ‘I am a Danfo Driver’ Mr Oghenemaro Henry Azubuike Emeofa who goes by the stage name Mad Melon has died after battling with an ailment.

The late Mad Melon alongside his friend and group member Jimoh Olotu a.ka. Mountain Black, are better known by their hit single ‘I am a Danfo Driver’. The Danfo represents a popular commercial Bus used in Lagos, mostly in the suburbs. Also, the duo used to own one which served as their means of livelihood, before eventually venturing into the music business in 2003 with Cornerstone Music.

Mad Melon was said to have died on Wednesday 25th September 2019 in a Hospital in Ajegunle, a suburb of Lagos State.

The death which has come has a huge shock to many Nigerians, was also confirmed by his management on their facebook page. The statement posted on their page about his death reads:

“The Management of Mad Melon and Mountain Black aka Danfo Driver wish to announce to the general public the passing on to the glory of Oghenemaro Henry Azubuike Emeofa aka Mad Melon which sad event took place last night. A mighty Iroko and a true legend have fallen. May God grant his family, groupmate (Mountain Black) well-wishers and friends the fortitude to bear the loss. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen

From being a ‘Danfo’ bus driver that plied the Ojo Road and Mile 2 route, they rose to become one of Nigeria’s best music duo and international stars to come out of Ajegunle.

Their hit ‘I Am a Danfo Driver, was chosen alongside 2baba’s ‘African Queen’ as the soundtracks in the Hollywood movie, Phat Girlz.
They then made history as the first Nigerian artistes to have their track used as a soundtrack in a Hollywood movie.
The duo later released a sophomore album titled “Danfo Travel: Success Story” in 2005
