Elephants chase Ogun villagers, cause pandemonium

There was pandemonium in Ijebu waterside area of Ogun state as a herd of elephants chased Ogun villagers who thronged the forest to catch a glimpse of the animal.

A video posted on Instagram showed the Ogun villagers catching a glimpse of the elephants and filming them.

The fun, however, turned sour when the elephants, in turn, started to pursue the youths who were filming their movement.

This will not be the first time elephants will be spotted in some of the States in Nigeria, as most of them migrates from neighbouring countries seeking food in Nigeria, after which they move back.

The Ogun villagers are hosting their new visitors almost a year when three elephants and their children invaded a village in Kebbi State in September of last year and made the place their home.

The Elephants were said to have migrated from neighbouring West African country of Benin Republic where they were running away from heavy flood and looking for dry land. They finally settled in Kebbi State and refused to return, making Bagudo their new home, and the villagers’ farmland their place of rest and feeding spot.

The Elephants thereafter settled in Ganten Tudu in Bagudo Local Government Area in Kebbi State, and just like the Ogun villagers, those in Kebbi then marvelled at the sudden appearance of the elephants and decided to name them Mama and Karama (which means mummy and baby).

The Elephants were a family looking for a better living elsewhere, and Mama which is the mother dragged her children from the Benin Republic to Nigeria, and these ones in Ogun State possibly had migrated from Benin Republic given the closeness.

The Government of Kebbi State then took immediate care of the elephants, protecting them from danger, as we look forward to what Ogun state Government will be doing about their new visitors.
