Ogun State Governor, Governor Dapo Abiodun visits areas ravaged by flood in Ijebu-Ode and its environs, as the Governor who seems to have hit the ground running since he was sworn in as Governor of the State, was in Ijedbu Ode accompanied by his team. The visit which is an inspection and on-site assessment tour, in order to get first-hand information of how some of the streets have been ravaged by flood, was done to find a permanent solution to the flood problem in the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun and his team in their assessment, were at Igbeba, Paramount, Moborode, Italapo, Degun and Imowo Ibadan roads within Ijebu Ode metropolis.

The Governor while speaking on what they have observed from their assessment tour, said one of the biggest complaints was that most of the homes are being flooded once it rains. This at times, makes it difficult for people to get into their homes till past midnight. He said:

“From our preliminary assessment, the biggest challenge we have in Ijebu Ode is that the drains that crisscross the town are small concrete drains that are also covered hence they don’t allow for regular de-silting and clearance.

Ijebu-Ode will require bigger and open drainage that can easily accommodate the volume of floods in the area and that also be easily maintained.

Consequently, we are going to have a comprehensive plan aimed at resolving these problems once and for all. The drains that serve as carriage will be re-designed to accommodate large volumes of flood water” he said.

While sympathising with those whose homes were overtaken by the flood, Governor Dapo Abiodun reiterated the need for the people to desist from throwing refuse into the drainages and always clean the ones close to them, as this would allow for easy flow of water and save the roads from being washed away.

He also enjoins residents to exercise patience with the government as we find a lasting solution to the menace. See some of the photos taken on the tour:
