Valencia on Saturday night in Benito Villamarin Stadium in Sevilla triumphed over Barcelona 2-1 to be crowned the 2019 Copa del Rey champions.
Valencia did it the hard way against Barcelona as the goals from Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo Moreno, gave them the perfect start to the game, and even with a late push by Barcelona and Lionel Messi, Valencia were able to hold until the end of the game:
The win by Valencia is the first Copa del Ray they will be winning since 2008, and 8 in total. It also halted Barcelona’s streak of four consecutive Copa del Rey titles.
Barcelona with injury problems, had Jasper Cillessen coming in for Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Philippe Coutinho was given the nod to start up front in a 4-4-2 with Lionel Messi in place of the injured Luis Suarez.
Although Barcelona board were before this game backing Manager Ernesto Valverde to continue at the club, against the wishes of fans. But will this lost now to Valencia at the Copa del Ray not make them change their decision, as fans are eagerly waiting for his sack?
