Wolves thump Arsenal 3-1 at home, to deny them the opportunity to go 4th on the Premier League table ahead of Chelsea who dropped points on Monday night against Burnley. Arsenal fails for the second time in four days to cement their spot in the top four, after they were thrashed 2-3 at home by Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The midweek game between Wolves and Arsenal was one everybody, even manager Unai Emery knew was going to be a difficult one, given Arsenal’s poor form away, and how Wolves have made it difficult for virtually all the big teams that have come to play at their home ground. Matt Doherty made it two, and Diogo Jota again, was on the score sheet, as he netted the third goal to complete a whitewash of manager Unai Emery and his men, on a night everyone had expected them to win.
A consolation goal for Arsenal came from Sokratis in the 80th minutes, but was too little too late, as Arsenal continues their poor run of form in the League.
Arsenal are now 5th with 66-points, one point behind Chelsea, and four points also behind Spurs, and Manchester United with just two points, as we wait for yet another drama come this weekend when Manchester United takes on Chelsea, and Arsenal goes away to Leicester City on Sunday.
This win means Wolves have picked up 16 points in their matches against the current top six this season, a record that includes wins over Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and now Arsenal.
If Manchester City beat Watford in the FA Cup final the team finishing seventh in the Premier League will take the last available European spot and enter next season’s Europa League at the second qualifying round phase.
