Chelsea drop more points against Burnley as top 4 drama continues

Chelsea drop more points at home to relegation threatened Burnley, as they missed a golden opportunity to go third on the Premier League table ahead of Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United who all lost their games over the weekend.

The game started as expected, with Chelsea gaining upper hand from kickoff, creating all the chances and gaining all possession, as Burnley who clearly came with a game plan as usual, made it difficult for the likes of Eden Hazard and Odoi to make a clean penetration towards goal. But it was the visitors who scored first, as Jeff Hendrick well taken outside volley found the back of the net to silence the optimistic home crowd at the Bridge.

Eden Hazard assisted N’Golo Kante for Chelsea’s equaliser, before the hosts went in front through a fine Gonzalo Higuain strike. Ashley Barnes levelled for Burnley just ten minutes later, however, and neither side were able to score a winner after the break, as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Although it is unfortunate that the game ended in a draw for Chelsea, they deserved more, as the officiating as usual from English referees was very poor again. The added time in that game ought to be more than 5-minutes, given the dubious and shameful way the Burnley players were falling all over the pitch, clearly dragging the time in their favour.

The Monday night result now means Chelsea and Spurs are now on the same points, but Spurs are third on goal difference, while Arsenal and Manchester United are 5th and 6th respectfully.
