Liz Truss is officially the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, after being appointed by Queen Elizabeth at Balmoral Castle on Tuesday.
The Queen received Liz Truss at Balmoral Castle where she was asked by her Majesty the Queen to form a new Administration.
According to the statement released by the Royal House, Ms. Liz Truss accepted Her Majesty’s offer and was appointed Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
Her appointment means she is now only the third female prime minister in British history, reaching the summit of her eclectic political career. And the 15th leader to serve during the 70-year reign of the Queen.
In the photo shared by the Royal family, the pair were photographed shaking hands and talking in front of a fireplace while the 96-year-old monarch held a walking stick.
Later this afternoon, Truss will address the nation at Downing Street and is expected to start naming her cabinet
Boris Johnson earlier tendered his resignation to the monarch after travelling separately to Scotland.
Truss succeeds Boris Johnson who resigned his appointment as PM in July over a series of scandals.
Liz Truss is also the Conservative Party Leader gathering 81,326 votes against her rival, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak who had 60,399 votes.
Before her emergence as PM, Truss was the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.
