The Lagos State Government five-man committee set up to investigate the collapsed building at Number 63 Massey Street Ita-Faaji, Lagos Island has finally submitted their report.

The Lagos State Government had some weeks back set up a five-man Panel to investigate the Ita-Faaji Building Collapse in Lagos Island after the unfortunate incident that claimed about 20 lives, which were mostly school children, and properties lost.

The five-man panel were given the mandate to find the immediate and remote causes of the three-storey building collapse that led to injury and death of some inhabitants in Ita-Faaji.

The five-man panel picked comprise professionals from the private and built sectors, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, disclosed that the terms of reference of the panel include proffering remedial measures to stem further building collapse in the future, determining the level of negligence on the part of the developer or owner and the role of the State Government.

Ogunleye said the panel is expected to recommend measures that will guarantee quality service to forestall incidents of building collapse in the State, assuring that the recommendations will be appraised for implementation by the State government to stem the tide of such occurrences in future.

The Chairman of the Ita-Faaji panel, a retired Permanent Secretary in Lagos State, Engr. Wasiu Olokunola at the innuaguration of the panel, had  gave the assurance that the panel would do a thorough job as the members have the requisite experience in the built industry.

Other members of the panel include Architect Fitzgerald Umar, Barrister Bayo Owojori, Tpl. Ayo Adediran and Mr. Kunle Awobodu.

The panel were given two weeks, and it seems like they have taken more than that, as they submitted their report on Thursday. We now wait for the Lagos State government to make their findings and recommendation to the general public.
