UCL: Son Heung-min scores as Tottenham beats Man City 1-0

The goal by Son Heung-min was the difference in London on Tuesday night, as Tottenham beats Manchester City 1-0 to take a slim margin lead in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter final.

The game as expected, had everything, and although Manchester United could not find their rhythm on the night, Tottenham were a bit lucky not to have conceded early in the first half, as Aguero missed the chance to give Pep Guardiola’s side an away goal after he missed a penalty awarded via VAR.

The VAR penalty call was in the 13th minute when Danny Rose was penalised for a handball inside his own box after a VAR consultation, but Sergio Aguero’s penalty kick was parried away by Hugo Lloris.

After that miss, Manchester City will regret later in the second half, as Son Heung-min who had already netted Tottenham’s first goal at their new stadium last week, got the only goal of the night in the 78th minute to give his side a lead to take to the Etihad for next week’s second leg.

The goal scored by Son Heung-min was an avoidable one if the Manchester City players have kept their concentration in the last 12 minutes of the game. They were all looking and complaining to the Referee that the ball had crossed the line before Son Heung-min could control it. However, a replay showed that the South Korean controlled the ball and was still on the line, before he nudged it back to open up an angle before squeezing a shot below Ederson.

This result although favours Tottenham going into the second leg, but with Harry Kane injured, it makes it difficult to have a point man for the second leg. It is either Kane will be rested for the league game at the weekend which is another important game for the race to top four, and play him for the second leg of the Champions league with City or risk him in both games.
