I am ashamed that this election has cost us lives- Ireti Doyle

This 2019 elections without a doubt will for many years to come, be made references to, especially in Lagos, as individuals, friends and even family members, now know what the other truly feel about them, and the need for an actual real talk, but one woman who has joined a few Nigerians to condemn and distance herself from all the madness is veteran actress Ireti Doyle.

We all are witnesses (while some are victims) to some of the sad events that took place throughout this election, from the Presidential and now the Gubernatorial elections, but as a woman and someone who is more Nigerian than some of us, Ireti Doyle expressing her sadness as to all the happenings, said she is ashamed that Nigeria as a country cannot conduct something common as election without resulting to violence and bigotry.

She said it has been two weeks since the sad experience in the Presidential elections, but everything is still fresh in her memory, and although she did not say she is not going out to vote for today’s election, from her post, it is clear she has decided to stay away.

Ireti Doyle showing her one Nigerianess, put up a post where she used both Igbo and Yoruba to express her thoughts. She said:

“E ma je ki nparo….oju ti mi. Oju nti mi GAN.
It’s been 2 weeks and I still have a bitter taste in my mouth…
I am embarrassed by our inability to conduct something as common place as an election, I am ashamed that it in fact cost us lives.
I am embarrassed by the way we talk to each other and how a difference of opinion on politics or any other subject for that matter brings about such ugliness and bigotry.
I am ashamed at how grey haired men have set the children and grandchildren against one another, and I am confounded at how the kids have allowed themselves to get caught up in the twisted rhetoric. “Influencers” ngwanu! Keep stirring the pot.
One day we will address this our inability to sell a service, commodity or person without completely annihilating that which existed before.
For now let me say good luck. For those who still have the stomach for it, go vote. Be safe. And try not to be part of the problem” see said.
