Former Barcelona midfielder and captain, Andres Iniesta is being called a racist for putting up a post of a white man with his face painted black, while celebrating the festive season with his family.
Andres Iniesta whom we initially thought was unaware of this and how offensive his post is, seems not to care, as for two days now, even with the condemnation and messages on his Instagram page, he has refused to take down the post.
In the photo, a number of people are dressed as a variety of nativity characters, two of whom appear to be made up in blackface.
It is believed to be a reference to the story of St Nicholas and ‘Black Pete’ – one of Santa’s helpers – who features in Spanish folklore.
Since Andres Iniesta put up the post, it has all been negative comments as most people want him to take it down. See some of the comments:
