Floyd Mayweather is set yet again, come out of retirement for another big fight, as he is returning to the ring to face Japanese kickboxing sensation, Tenshin Nasukawa.
The fight which has been fixed for December 31st would see Floyd Mayweather face the 20-year-old Japanese, in what many say, it would be another big money fight for the American, who is gradually becoming more of a celebrity fighter.
According to a report from the camp of Floyd Mayweather, the parties are collaborating with the Rizin Fighting Federation, a Japanese mixed martial arts company, and will fight kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa at the organization’s year-end show on New Year’s Eve in Japan.
This announcement was made at a news conference in Tokyo, where Rizin officials introduced both Mayweather and Nasukawa, the undefeated 20-year-old kickboxing prodigy who joined the MMA promotion in 2016.
Mayweather at the news conference said:
“It wasn’t easy to make this happen…but we told the people anything is possible, so now we’re here and we want to make sure that we give the people in Tokyo what they want to see: blood, sweat, and tears.”
Promoters said the fight between Mayweather and Nasukawa will headline the Rizin 14 card to be staged on 31 December at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
The American is 50-0 as his fight mixed fight was against McGregor, after which he announced his retirement, before this shocking news. A lot of people thought it was going to be Khabib Nurmagomedov, after the Russian called him out for a showdown, after beating McGregor a few weeks ago.
“We’ll talk about that, we’ll get that situated within the next couple weeks…as far as the weight class, we’re not really worried about that. When it’s all said and done, it’s all about me going out there and displaying my skills against another skillful fighter.”
He added: “Throughout my career, I fought at a heavier weight class but I always was really a smaller fighter. It’s really all about the skills, it’s really not about the weight.”
Rizin chairman Nobuyuki Sakakibara said:
“As far as the rule set and the weight and the rules, we still have some work cut out for us. But it will be a great fight that everybody will be so excited to see.”
Nasukawa on his part said:
“I think my role as a fighter is to make sure that fighting here in Japan gathers a lot of excitement…When I was offered this card, I accepted it right away without any delay whatsoever.”
He added: “You might be surprised after hearing this announcement, and honestly speaking I’m a little surprised myself. Nobody has defeated my opponent in the past and I would like to be the man who makes history. My punch can change history and I will show that to you.”
Mayweather concluded by saying: “This kid right here is very, very special. He’s powerful, he’s fast, he’s strong. I’m older now. I think that when it comes to experience, I have more experience on my side. But when it comes to youth, youth is on his side.”
The date has been fixed, but the figures are not out for us to know how much it took for Floyd to come out of retirement this time…
