Dr Fayemi sworn-in as Governor, promise to revive the economy

Dr Fayemi a few hours ago took his oath of Office as the new Governor of Ekiti State, as the former Minister of Solid Minerals promised a revival of the economy of the South-West State.

Dr Fayemi, was a former governor of the state between 2010 and 2014, before he was defeated in his attempt to go for the second term by former Governor, Ayodele Fayose in 2014.

The result was different four years later, as he contested and defeated the former Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Professor Kolapo Olusola, and over 30 others in a keenly contested election to become the next Governor of Ekiti State.

Dr Fayemi was victorious in 11 out of the 16 local government areas of the state, polling 197,459 votes and edging out his closest rival Olusola who got 178,121 votes by 19,338 votes.

The 53-year-old governor is a native of Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government of Ekiti State.

Dr Fayemi in his inauguration speech, shocked everyone by saying the State that has no meaningful source of Income aside the monthly allocation coming from Abuha, said is in a huge debt of N120 billion, as he asked the people of Ekiti State to join hands and work with his administration to resuscitate the ailing economy. He said:

Ekiti State will embark on social investment, education, agriculture and rural development…We are ready to work with everyone to create a landmark progress.

“We are committing to world best practices and deploy all skills to honestly work for the progress of the state,’’

”We will work to integrate the aspiration of the state to the programme of the Nigeria government…We will take full ownership of the challenges ahead of us.’’

Former Governor Ayo Fayose who skipped the event for obvious reason, if allegedly now in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
