Police has apprehended a Chieftain of the opposition party of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one Mr. Adeagbo Wasiu over his alleged involvement in votes buying at the ongoing Osun Governorship election.

The Police paraded the alleged PDP Chieftain after he was allegedly caught in the act of Votes buying, as both the Nigerian Police Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) and even the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) hitherto warned of the consequences awaiting anyone caught engaged in vote buying and selling during the Osun Governorship Election.
INEC in their earlier statement released a few hours ago, had put up this :

“Paying money to any other person for bribery at any election or Receiving any money or gift, for voting or to refrain from voting at any election is an offence. It’s a criminal offence punishable by a term of imprisonment, a fine or both” the statement states.

They [INEC] further went ahead to say that collecting money from persons that are not eligible to vote and also knowing such, is also an offence.

“A person voting or attempting to vote at an election when he/she is not qualified or inducing a person to vote at an election knowing that such person is not qualified. It’s a criminal offence punishable by a term of imprisonment, a fine or both.”

The Nigerian Police which released the photographs of the alleged PDP Chieftain also claimed that a total sum of N116,000 naira was found on Mr. Adeagbo Wasiu.
